Mercy Corps – Gaza Sky Geeks is launching Intalqi, a program designed to increase the number of Gazan women who successfully found a startup. Applications are now open to become a Big Sister or Little Sister in the program. Submit your application by Monday, March 24. Intalqi is part of Google’s #40Forward challenge.
Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneurة?
Join us for a few hours a week for two months (April and May 2014) to build a community of women who will become the female entrepreneur leaders in Gaza. The Big Sister/Little Sister program provides young women with a role model and a friend to talk to, learn from, and receive motivation from even after the program is finished. Through regular trainings, knowledge sharing sessions, and mentorship, you will develop the knowledge and relationships that will support you as you face the challenges of becoming a leader in Gaza’s tech startup community. Big Sisters/Little Sisters will have fun together and create memories that last a lifetime.

What are the eligibility requirements for Big Sisters?
- You have a startup or you previously tried to launch a startup.
- You are committed to launching a startup successfully (with all the challenges that takes), even if you do not have a clear idea for your startup now. You want to be the next person in Gaza who receives investment – or who launches a startup without an investment!
- You have demonstrated that you are an emerging leader with resilience, optimism, and a can-do attitude.
- You are committed to helping younger women launch startups. Even if Intalqi did not exist, you would be excited to support a younger woman.
- You have a minimum of one year full-time professional experience. (preferred)
- Be able to dedicate 5-8 hours per week to this program in April and May 2014.
What are the eligibility requirements for Little Sisters?
- You are passionate and dedicated to starting your own startup
- You have taken some training on entrepreneurship already (not required, but preferred).
- You are interested in using your skills (whether in art, math, science, business, communications, design, writing, architecture, or any other field) to launch a startup
- You have demonstrated that you are a budding leader (e.g., record of public service in your community, most active participant in your classes, projects that you do on your own, etc.)
- Be able to dedicate 3-5 hours per week to this program in April and May 2014.
When will I find out if I was selected?
Final decisions will be made by March 31, 2014. Gaza Sky Geeks may interview some candidates or to speak to their references during the selection process on an as-needed basis.
When does the program start?
The program will begin in early April and last approximately two months.

Big Sisters:
By being a Big Sister, you can be the confidant and friend who encourages a budding leader (Little Sister) to do more, try harder and become greater than she ever imagined. Each Big Sister will get a true leadership opportunity. Don’t worry, you won’t be expected to be an expert. In fact, you will a mentor, too: a woman mentor from outside Gaza who can help you think through your own challenges in launching a startup. You’ll also receive training and a monthly pocket money. Most of all, you’ll be supported by other Big Sisters who know what it’s like to be an entrepreneurة!
Little Sisters:
By being a Little Sister, you will find a Big Sister to inspire, support and befriend you. You will receive unique training that will help you help you begin the process of launching a startup. You will get the chance to practice with idea generation and pitching. You will become more confident, motivated and committed to your dreams. You’ll also receive surprise prizes throughout the program. In our next Startup Weekend, we hope that you will have all the tools you need to become a winner.
What is a startup?
A startup is a business, usually tech-related, that has the potential of reaching many people and making large amounts of profit. Startups are often (but not always) innovative. The innovative ones create new solutions for the world. Here are examples of businesses that are startups, and also examples of ones that are not startups:
Knitting sweaters, painting pottery, etc: This is not a startup because it will always be a small business. You cannot make it 100 times bigger unless you hire 100 more people.
Etsy.com: This is a startup. It is a website that sells the pottery, jewelry, and other arts & crafts that people have made. The person who launched the startup receives some of the money from each sale. When the website grows 100 times bigger, the founder receives 100 times more money, without having to hire more people.
Making videos or websites for people: This is not a startup. If you want to make 100 more videos or websites for people, you will have to hire 100 more people to help you make them.
WordPress.com: This is a startup. Someone built this solution to help people make their own websites. Now millions of websites can be made each year using WordPress, even though only a few people were needed to launch and maintain WordPress. If they were monetizing the startup, they could make lots of money.
Swimming goggles that show you your heart rate: An Arab woman recently came up with this product. She is a competitive swimmer. She was annoyed that, unlike runners, swimmers cannot tell what their heart rate is when swimming. She designed goggles that show you your heart rate: a green light in the goggles means that you have a low heart rate, yellow means you have a medium heart rate, and red means you have a high heart rate. This is a very innovative solution that will be useful for many swimmers throughout the world and thus has the potential to make lots of money.
Why should I launch a startup?
You don’t necessarily need to. You can also do other useful things with your life: launch a small business, work at a university, etc.
However, outside of Gaza, startups are changing the world. They provide job opportunities (Google and Facebook hire tens of thousands of people) and they create solutions that advance our lives (imagine life without Google or Twitter or smart phones!) Often, they do not require many resources, just a computer and an internet connection: Google could have been created in Gaza just as easily as it was created in California.
You can participate in this… and if you launch a successful startup, you will change the world, make lots of money, and demonstrate that Gaza has amazing talent.
What is Intalqi?
Intalqi is a program that Mercy Corps – Gaza Sky Geeks is launching to increase the number of women startup founders.
In an effort to find new ways to advance female entrepreneurs, Google for Entrepreneurs is committing $1 million in aggregate to 40 startup-focused organizations, challenging them to increase the representation of women in their respective tech communities. From simply changing the times of events to accommodate busy moms to teaching young girls to see themselves as entrepreneurs, 40 of startup communities including Mercy Corps-Gaza Sky Geeks will soon launch new programs and outreach initiatives to encourage women founders. This collective effort called #40Forward.

ما هي متطلبات القبول كأخت كبرى ضمن برنامج “انطلقي”؟
- تملكين شركة ناشئة حاليًا أو قمت بالسابق بمحاولة إنشاء شركة.
- تشعرين بأنك ملتزمة وتبذلين الجهد الكافي لإنشاء شركتك الخاصة برغم كل الصعوبات، وتعتقدين بأنك ستحصلين على تمويل جيد لمشروعك القادم أو الحالي.
- سبق لك ان اشتركت في وظائف او مواقف استخدمتي بها مهاراتك القيادية وقدرتك على الصبر وبث روح التفاؤل في محيطك والقدرة على العمل والانجاز.
- تشعرين بالالتزام نحو مساعدة الاخرين حتى بدون برنامج مثل “انطلقي”، تشعرين بأنك تحبين مساعدة الاخرين في مشاريعهم.
- تملكين على الأقل سنة من الخبرة العملية (مفضل).
- تملكين القدرة على تخصيص خمس إلى ثماني ساعات أسبوعياً للمشاركة في البرنامج على مدى شهرين ابريل ومايو 2014.
ما هي متطلبات القبول كأخت صغرى ضمن برنامج “انطلقي”؟
- تملكين الرغبة والحماسة لاطلاق شركتك الناشئة.
- قمتي بحضور تدريب في السابق عن ريادة الاعمال( ليس مطلوب ولكن مفضل)
- تشعرين بالرغبة في استغلال مهاراتك وموهبتك في انشاء شركتك الخاصة ( الأعمال، الفنون، البرمجة، التصميم الخ ..)
- تشعرين بأنك تملكين ما يؤهلك لتكوني قيادية وريادية ناجحة.
- تستطيعين ان تخصصي من ثلاث إلى خمس ساعات أسبوعياً للمشاركة في البرنامج على مدى شهرين إبريل ومايو 2014.
متى سأعرف إن تم اختياري؟
سوف يتم اختيار الأسماء النهائية في 31 مارس 2014, ومن الممكن أن تقوم غزة سكاي جيكز بإجراء بعض المقابلات الشخصية أو التحدث مع معرفين للأشخاص المرشحين حسب الحاجة.
متى يبدأ البرنامج؟
البرنامج يبدأ في اول شهر ابريل 2014 ويمتد بحد أقصى لشهرين بعد تاريخ الانطلاق.

الأخت الكبرى:
بكونك أخت كبرى فأنت تلتزمين بأن تكوني صديقة وفية ومرشدة لريادية صاعدة وهي الأخت الصغرى لكي تدفعيها إلى العمل بجد وإنجاز أكثر مما كنت تتوقع من نفسها. كل أخت كبرى ستحصل على فرصة قيادة حقيقة ومع ذلك لا تقلقي فسوف تحصلين على التدريب والإرشاد من مرشدات وسيدات اعمال من خارج قطاع غزة وستكون مهمتك هي نقل هذه الخبرات الجديدة إلى مجموعة الرياديات التابعة لك. ستحصلين أيضا على التدريب ومصروف شهري خاص بك، وقبل كل ذلك ستحصلين أيضا على الدعم من أخوات آخريات يعلمون ما الذي يجب أن نمتلكه لنصبح رياديات أعمال.
الأخت الصغرى:
بكونك أخت صغرى ستحصلين على أخت كبرى ستمثل مصدر الإلهام والدعم والصداقة بالنسبة لك كأخت صغرى. سوف تحصلين على تدريب مميز جداً ومختلف يساعدك على إنشاء شركتك ومشروعك بنجاح بالإضافة إلى تدريبات أخرى على خلق أفكار لمشاريع ناجحة لتقديمها للمستثمرين. الأخت الصغرى ستحصل على فرص حقيقية لتطوير الثقة بالنفس والتحفيز لإعدادهم لخوض المنافسات المستقبلية بنجاح إضافة إلى عدد من الجوائز المفاجئة خلال فترة البرنامج. نحن نأمل أن يتم إعدادك وتمكينك لخوض منافسة Startup Weekend القادمة بنجاح.
ما هي الشركة الريادية؟
الشركة الريادية هي مشروع في الأغلب يختص بأمور التكنولوجيا. ويملك القدرة على الوصول إلى قاعدة زبائن كبيرة وتوليد كميات كبيرة من الأرباح، الشركات الريادية في المعظم تعتمد على أفكار خلاقة وجديدة ولكن ليس دائماً، في حالة المشاريع المبنية على أفكار جديدة فإنها تقدم حلول جديدة للعالم، فيما يلي امثلة على شركات ريادية وأخرى لا تعتبر شركة ريادية:
- التخييط والتطريز: لا يعتبر هذا المشروع مشروع ريادي لأنه لا يمتلك مقومات التوسع بسرعة وبتكلفة قليلة لان توسع هذا المشروع يتطلب أن نقوم بزيادة كبيرة في الأيدي العاملة.
- Etsy.com: يقوم هذا الموقع ببيع الخزفيات والفخار والمجوهرات والعديد من المشغولات اليدوية, هذا مشروع ريادي لأن زيادة الطلب لا تعني بالضرورة زيادة الأيدي العاملة بل يستطيع التوسع كثيراً قبل الحاجة إلى أيدي عاملة جديدة.
- § عمل فيديوهات ترويجية: لا تعتبر هذه الشركة ريادية لأنها لتقوم بعمل 100 فيديو ل 100 عميل تحتاج إلى وقت كبير وأيدي عاملة أكبر.
- WordPress.com: تعتبر شركة ريادية لانها تمكن الملايين من استخدام خدماتها وهي انشاء مواقع ومدونات بسرعة عبر برنامجها على الانترنت, ولأنها للتوسع لا تحتاج إلى المزيد من الموارد المكلفة تعتبر شركة ريادية ناجحة.
- نظارات رياضية لمتابعة ضربات القلب: فتاة عربية من لبنان قامت باختراع هذه الأداة كونها رياضية (بطلة سباحة) رأت أن معظم الرياضيين يريدون ان يتابعوا حالة قلبهم خلال التمارين والتدريبات فقامت بإنشاء هذه المشروع والنظارة التي تقيس ضربات القلب ليصبح الأخضر ان ضربات القلب سليمة والاصفر ان معدل الضربات متوسط والاحمر بان ضربات القلب زادت بصورة غير صحية, هذا مشروع ريادي يوجد له العديد من الزبائن لانه يحل مشكلة حقيقة عندهم.
لماذا يجب ان أقوم بانشاء شركتي الخاص؟
في الواقع الأمر ليس ملزمًا. يمكنك عمل أشياء مختلفة ومفيدة أخرى في حياتك كإنشاء مشروع صغير، العمل في الجامعة الخ …
في نفس الوقت، فن الشركات الريادية خارج قطاع غزة يغير العالم كل يوم. الشركات الريادية تقوم بتوفير العديد من فرص العمل مثل جوجل وفايسبوك و واتس ااب … والشركات الريادية تخلق حلول مهمة لمشاكل حياتية مهمة، كيف لك أن تتصور حياتك اليوم بدون جوجل او فايسبوك و في العادة لا تحتاج هذه الشركات إلى العديد من الموارد (كمبيوتر واتصال بالانترنت فقط) لذا كان من الممكن أن يتم إنشاء جوجل في غرة بدل كاليفورنيا.
