During the past 3 years of our work (since our foundation in 2011), we’ve learned a lot about what it takes to launch startups from a part of the world where most people have never heard of a startup.
Two of the first startups in Gaza were created by people who learned about tech entrepreneurship at one of our Startup Weekends. Most youth who come to our accelerator these days and say, “I want to launch a startup” still have a small business idea in mind, not a startup.
We have talent in Gaza, but the talent lacks awareness of global trends. Our job is to give youth the tools & knowledge they need to develop smart startup ideas and launch them successfully.
Our model
Our vision is to create a tech hub in Gaza, giving youth the opportunity to take their future into their own hands and create jobs, and giving the world access to innovation that will come from this frontier market.
Our model has four clear steps:
- Build community
- Conduct active outreach
- Work closely with top talent
- Invest & accelerate
It only takes $500k/year to grow Gaza’s startup movement
It takes $500k/year to build community, conduct outreach, prepare top talent for investment, and accelerate the teams that receive investment.
This amount covers our full staff (3 people plus 2 interns), the outreach and acceleration activities themselves (competitions, training, stipends or small grants so that startups can test their products before they have investment, and trips abroad for people who are producing products for markets they have never seen), and the support team with which we would not be able to work, particularly in Gaza (accounting, logistics, security, permits to enter and exit Gaza).
We’ve built a startup movement in Gaza. With your support, we can keep it going – and push the envelope in the next three years. Help us turn Gaza into a tech hub. Give our pioneering young leaders a chance to contribute to the world in this incredibly positive way.
